DWWA Resident Co-Chair for 2026: Caro Maurer MW

Caro Maurer MW is the newly appointed Resident Co-Chair at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2026 (DWWA).

Caro Maurer MW, a prominent German wine writer and educator, is the new Resident Co-Chair for the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards. For her writing work, she divides her time between her work at General-Anzeiger, the daily newspaper in Bonn, and Der Feinschmecker, a leading food and wine magazine.

With over 30 years of experience, Caro has held various high-profile positions, including correspondent roles in New York and Los Angeles, senior editor for the German edition of Forbes magazine, and editor at Die Welt. In 2011, she achieved the Master of Wine title, becoming the first woman from the German-speaking world to do so and also received the Noval Award from Quinta do Noval (Douro) for the best dissertation, which was titled ‘Erste Lage in Germany – a Classification in Development.

In addition to her writing, Caro is a respected wine educator and international wine judge, bringing exceptional insight and expertise to the global wine industry. A long-standing DWWA judge since 2013, she has led the Germany and South Eastern Mediterranean panels as Regional Chair in recent years.

2026 marks her first year serving as Resident Co-Chair, a newly introduced role at the Decanter World Wine Awards. Caro brings her deep expertise in global wine regions, extensive judging experience, and longstanding commitment to DWWA to this important new position.
